Carbon Footprint Reduction

 by

 8 Park Road’s Green Committee

(V. Lawrence, N. Cole, M. Ngthowhing, B. Stover, P. Lawrence)

  1. Turn off your lights, television, DVD player, Hi Fi, computer etc. when not in use.

  2. Use energy-saving light bulbs

  3. Turn down the thermostat by 1 to 2 degrees C

  4. Fill your dish washer and washing machine with a full load   - this will  save you water, electricity, and washing powder.

  5. Hang out the washing to dry at times rather than tumble drying it. This  will also provide humidity in your room and spare the humidifier from running.

  6. Fill the kettle with only as much water as you need

  7. Plan your weekly shopping in a single trip

  8. Whenever possible, walk, car pool or use public transit

  9. Buy potted plants/flowers which last longer (weeks and even months) and help to absorb carbon dioxide in the air rather than cut flowers that die in less than a week and create more carbon dioxide/methane in decay

  10. Recycle as much as possible, in particular take great care in the disposal of CFL bulbs
